My Makeup Story

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! My grandparents came to visit from PA for my birthday and Thanksgiving. We went to a buffet and saw the movie Unstoppable. I am so thankful that I have a loving family. I miss them very much!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There is a tag going around on YouTube called "My Makeup Story" and I thought it would be good for a blog post :)

1. How old where you when you first started wearing makeup?
I started wearing very minimal makeup during seventh grade so I was around 13 years old. I wore Maybelline's Great Lash mascara, black eyeliner, and clear lipgloss every now and then.

2. How did you get into makeup?

I think I got into makeup because it was "in" to wear heavy eyeliner and mascara at the time- I remember almost everyone in middle school had a skater/punk look haha. I started reading Seventeen magazine around that time so seeing makeup looks in the magazine sparked my interest to start wearing it. During high school I started wearing eyeshadow and liquid eyeliner. I almost always had winged liquid eyeliner on- I thought it made my eyes look bigger. I liked wearing really bright eyeshadows- mostly green and purple. It wasn't until my senior year that I really got into makeup. The day of my boyfriend's prom, me, my aunt, her bes friend, my best friend, and her mom all went to the mall to get our makeup done. I got my makeup done at the Clinique counter and they had a deal going on that if you bought two of their products, then the makeup was free. The makeup artist used foundation, bronzer, minimal neutral eyeshadows, pencil eyeliner, and mascara. I ended up buying the foundation and bronzer that she used. I started watching YouTube makeup videos the summer after prom and started experimenting with different looks and products and the more I practiced, the more I loved it!

3. What are some of your favorite brands?

As far as drugstore brands, I really like Maybelline, Revlon, and Covergirl. I like Maybelline's mascaras, Revlon's eyeliners, and Covergirl's lipsticks the best. As far as higher end brands, I like MAC and Nars.

4. What does makeup mean to you?

Makeup is a form of art to me. I've always been really into art- painting, drawing, sketching. I think it is amazing how you can transform someone's look with makeup like how you can transform a blank canvas into a beautiful piece of art. It allows people to feel more confident and is fun to do.

5. If you could only wear 4 products on your face what would they be?

Foundation, eyeliner, mascara, and lip balm.

6. What is your favorite thing about makeup?

I like how one day you can have one look and then the next day you can have a completely different look but people can still tell it is you. I hope that makes sense lol.

7. What do you think about drugstore makeup vs. high end makeup?

I think drugstore makeup can be just as good as high end makeup. Most of my makeup collection is drugstore. If you can get the same quality in a drugstore product than you can in a high end product for half the price than I say get the drugstore product. I don't like how people assume that high end products are better just because of their name.

8. What is one tip of advice you can give to a beginner?

WATCH MAKEUP GURUS ON YOUTUBE! There are a lot of professional makeup artists who have channels on YouTube that you can learn from. They talk about techniques, products, and other helpful things about makeup. It helps you save money because you learn what products are good and what products are bad. Also, they can give you inspiration from their tutorials! I think I've learned the most from kandeejohnson, EnKoreMakeup, lisaeldridgedotcom, pixiwoo, and petrilude.

9. What is one makeup trend you never understood?

            Lips that are too nude.

10. What do you think about the beauty community on YouTube?

I think it is very helpful to girls and guys all over the world. It has made makeup just as inspirational as fashion and art. It's sad that there are people who leave nasty comments on videos and there are gurus who have become more interested in making money than helping/sharing with people who love makeup like myself!

elf Package

Today I got my package from elf cosmetics! I recently took advantage of their 25 cent shipping (even though their products are super duper cheap). I've never tried anything from elf before so I decided this would be a good opportunity.

I bought the items that I've seen people talk about in YouTube videos so I wouldn't be wasting my monies! Lol. The package was wrapped nicely and all the items were placed in a plastic drawstring bag. I ordered everything on the 9th and it came today on the 15th.

Eyeshadow Brush $1.00 & Blending Eye Brush $1.00  These brushes are very soft. I haven't tried them out yet but they feel very similar to some brushes that I have so I hope they work out okay! I will never pay $20 for one brush!

Hypershine Gloss in Fairy $1.00  This gloss is alright. It's nothing special- but it was only a dollar lol. I had to use a lot of product to get this color. It looks pretty when they light hits it because it has the iridescent look to it. It doesn't really smell like anything but it does taste good :)

Studio Bronzer in Warm $3.00  The texture of this is soft and creamy. I was surprised to see how golden it was. I probably wont use this during the winter because I am so pale but I will definitely use it during the summer when I have a bit more color.

Studio Contouring Blush & Bronzing Powder $3.00 The texture of this is also soft and creamy. I think that these two color really compliment each other and would look nicely on lighter skin tones.

I experimented with this nail design for the past two days and I really like it! I used Essie's Pearly White with China Glaze's Gold Medallion and OPI's Sparkle-icious from their new Burlesque collection.  I think I will do a tutorial for this soon.

Recent Purchases: Makeup/Accessories

Like I mentioned in an earlier post, I've been doing a little shopping lately. Here are some makeup and accessories I purchased this month.

These nail polishes are from China Glaze's new holiday collection.  I've always been the girl who paints her nails frequently so I jumped to get these as soon as they came out.  Sadly, I couldn't get all of them so I picked these two. "Cheers To You" is a metallic silver with very fine shimmers and "Party Hearty" is a clear with red, green, and silver sparkles. Click here to see the whole collection!

I also got this NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Rocky Green Mountain. It is a Christmas green with super small shimmer.

I picked up another Revlon Colorburst Lipstick in Raspberry.  I have Soft Nude which I don't particularly like (kinda drying) so I wanted to try another to see if it was just the formula.  This one is very moisturizing and is the exact color of a raspberry.  I really like berry color lipsticks in the fall/winter!

I got these two necklaces from Hot Topic. Click here and here to see more pictures.  The first one is an adjustable silver chain with a skull and rhinestone pendant (really pretty in person).  The second one is an adjustable antique gold and silver metal chain with lightning bolt charms hanging randomly.

Can You Pass the Cranberry Sauce?

I refilmed the look that didn't film from my last post today. It reminds me so much of fall and Thanksgiving! I can't wait :)

ARGH!

So apparently today is not my day. I filmed a tutorial before I met up with a friend and it didn't even record? I saw that my camera was recording and shut off a few times while I was filming but I pressed the "OK" button and it came right back on but I guess it erased everything each time (this has never happened before and I don't know what's wrong with my camera! >:( ). I will try to record it again tomorrow. This is the look:

I have been doing a little shopping lately so I think I may do a collective haul blog post soon. This is a necklace I purchased today:

I got it because it reminded me of Harry Potter!
